Sassy Foods, Inc. is a Maui-based food producer founded in 2004. Its flagship line, Tiffany’s Sassy Maui Salsa, comprises four fresh salsas — Sassy (medium), Suavē (mild), Slammin’ (medium green tomatillo) and Smokin’ (hot habanero) — each sold in a 12 oz (340g) tub.
Every batch is prepared fresh with local Hawaiʻi produce including tomatoes, green onion and cilantro, with no artificial preservatives. The line is carried by 13 retailers across the islands, including Whole Foods Market, Foodland, Safeway, Target, Times Supermarket, Don Quijote and Tamura’s, alongside Maui independents such as Mana Foods and Hasegawa General Store.
Founder Tiffany grew up in LaFamilia, Maui’s first Mexican restaurant, opened in 1969 by her parents Polli and Kent Smith, who went on to create Makawao’s Polli’s Mexican Restaurant. Tiffany’s first batch of salsa was made as Christmas gifts for family and friends.
